Water Flying Magazine
Water Flying is the only aviation magazine solely dedicated to covering the seaplane community with seaplane safety and how-to technique articles, pilot reports on aircraft and floats, seaplane travel and destination insights, news and new-product announcements, and a detailed calendar of seaplane events and activities. Published six times a year and distributed exclusively to SPA members.
Water Landing Directory
The Water Landing Directory app is a unique and powerful interactive tool for seaplane pilots and those interested in joining the seaplane community.
Features of the Water Landing Directory app include:
- Waterway guide that lists the status of waterways (open, restricted, closed or unknown) as well as information about the waterway itself including size, elevation, a map and satellite image of its location, local contact information and other useful information. Aquatic invasive species status, procedures and restrictions for specific waterways are listed when that information is known.
- Seaplane bases and information on these bases are listed and can be searched by FAA identifier, “near me” or by state.
- Fueling information for waterways that have on-water fueling capabilities for seaplanes. These are listed in a section dedicated to “Fuel on Water.”
- Seaplane Flight Training Guide that lists seaplane schools around the world, the equipment they operate, ratings and training they offer and links to contact them.
- Seaplane Destination Guide that helps pilots identify destinations that are seaplane friendly and the accommodations and amenities that can be enjoyed at these destinations.
- Seaplane Event Calendar that lists by date seaplane events, splash-ins, airshows, safety seminars and workshops.
Safety Seminars & Educational Workshops
The Seaplane Pilots Association conducts safety seminars and workshops around the country at aviation events including the Northwest Aviation Conference in Puyullap, Washington; Sun ‘n Fun; the Great Alaska Aviation Gathering; EAA’s AirVenture Oshkosh and many more.
Community Events
Belonging to the Seaplane Pilots Association is the best way to stay connected to the seaplane community through events including:
- The Annual SPA Corn Roast at EAA’s AirVenture Oshkosh, Wisconsin
- The Annual SPA Member Breakfast at the International Seaplane Fly-In, Greenville, Maine
- The Annual SPA Member Meeting - Location moves throughout the United States
- The Annual SPA Member Adventure provides a unique one-week seaplane adventure of a lifetime. Dozens of members gather to fly a variety of seaplanes and enjoy social activities in locations that have included Lake Como, Italy; Seattle, Washington; and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Field Directors
Our state Field Directors provide a core of knowledgeable seaplane owners and operators to assist SPA managers and members with answering seaplane questions, working local and regional issues, updating the Water Landing Directory, and recommending seaplane destinations in the areas they represent.
Online Resources
Online resources cover a variety of topics including seaplane terminology, seaplane specifications, downloadable resources, still photo and video galleries, podcasts, educational videos and so much more.
