Northwestern Michigan College

1701 East Front St., Traverse City, MI 49686

The NMC Seaplane course is operated out of the college’s aviation program facilities in beautiful Traverse City, MI. We are surrounded by a variety of bays and lakes, large and small, all near the airport, providing a diverse training environment to compliment your experience. Training is done in a 180-hp Piper Super Cub equipped with Wipline amphib floats. We provide a package of training aids including videos, the NMC Seaplane Training Reference Guide, and NMC’s Ground School Notes. Depending on the pilot’s skills and currency, the add-on rating can normally be completed in two to three days, allowing you to receive your training and rating over a weekend. Traverse City has wonderful accommodations on the bay, so plan to bring the family. We have a staff of seaplane instructors with decades of flight instruction experience and a local FAA-designated examiner who can complete your practical test using the plane you trained in.
